Customize caller personalities and voices
Scam With Your Friends supports custom caller personalities through JSON files and voice cloning through WAV files. These change caller content, while the optional Unlimited AI purchase covers AI usage during the playtest.
What JSON and WAV files are for
JSON files are the supported format for defining custom caller personalities. WAV files are the supported voice assets for voice cloning. The Steam page lists these as part of the game's moddable content.
Before choosing a community caller, decide whether you want to change its personality, its voice, or both. Ask the creator which parts their download changes and how to use the included files. Follow their game-specific instructions rather than treating a file extension as a complete installation guide.
Find community callers and get installation directions
- Open the game's Steam discussions to seek community caller recommendations and ask for instructions from the people sharing them.
- Request installation directions for the caller and playtest you intend to use, including the exact destination and any files to replace, so you have a concrete procedure before making changes.
- Back up any original game files that the instructions tell you to replace, so you can restore them if you want to undo the caller change.
- Apply the caller files only to the game location identified in those instructions, keeping your edits scoped to the intended installation.
If a shared caller comes without a destination or import procedure, leave your installation as it is and ask its creator for directions. Do not guess a folder from the download's name or copy instructions from another game. Keep the original download and its instructions together so you can refer to them when applying or reversing the change.
Caller mods, Unlimited AI, and OpenRouter
| Option | What it does |
|---|---|
| Custom caller files | Change caller content using JSON personality files and WAV assets for voice cloning. |
| Unlimited AI purchase | The optional $8 purchase covers Unlimited AI usage during the playtest. It does not include a game key or grant playtest access. |
| OpenRouter | Hosts the caller's language model in the cloud. Speech recognition and voice synthesis run locally. |
Unlimited AI access lasts only while the playtest is active. A purchase covers the lobby, with access linked to the purchaser's Steam account. The full game includes unlimited AI, so that playtest purchase is not needed for the full release.
Keep service setup separate from caller installation
For a personality or voice change, keep your setup questions focused on the caller files. Treat OpenRouter configuration as a separate question, and ask for game-specific directions before changing service settings. A general OpenRouter tutorial should not stand in for instructions explaining where a community caller belongs.
If you need help activating Unlimited AI, join the studio's Discord and open a support ticket. If activation is taking longer than expected, include the reference shown on the activation page. The support instructions say you do not need to pay again.
